Drug Testing: Where should school jurisdiction end?
A. Determine the rhetorical situation
i. Author:
Jordan
Graham is a professional journalist. Though his coverage ranged in subject, the
focus of gravitated towards issues concerning juvenile justice policy and
funding in Chicago and Illinois. Before
coming to the Medill School of Journalism, Jordan received his BA in English
and Economics from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2009.
While in undergrad, he wrote for a local bi-monthly newspaper, a satirical rag
and the music section of an entertainment magazine.

This
sentence shows that this high school have strong attitude to test drugs for
students, they are justice and maybe right.

author wants to let readers listen different voices and make the article more
objective.

This
sentence and the contents following show that the different voices from
parents. The author wants to make those people clam and think clearly: The
school doesn’t want to do harm to their children.

Even though
the author shows his agree attitude towards the school’s decision about drug
testing, he also think that the school should do the things within their
jurisdiction. It shows objective attitude from the author.

The school
chooses a coordinated approach making parents calm. The author agrees with

now.

This word “fight” is a clearly violent verb,
it may show that the relationship between students and school is very tensions.

The word “almost immediately” shows that the
students’ firmly rejected attitudes towards school’s decision. Their reaction
is quickly. From the words, we can see the fierce confrontation.
